Update #5 - Where I prepare for a mini-exhibition, put my flat on the market, and complete a new collection

This is where I share what I’ve been up to behind the scenes to move my art career forward - the good, the bad, and the as-yet-to-be-determined.

Whoops! Apparently I missed a week. I don’t know how that happened. Well, I do, actually - it has been completely manic here. We’re moving house, and my flat went on the market last week, which means that I’ve had to stop every 5 minutes to clean up for estate agents, photographers, and prospective buyers, as well as fill in more forms than you could possibly imagine. I’ve never done so much housework in my life! I’m also preparing for a mini-show at a local café (more on that below) and creating a whole new collection of work for one of the applications I mentioned last week.

This week’s Rose, Bud, & Thorn

The Rose is something that went well, the Thorn is something that didn’t go so well or is challenging, and the Bud is something that is still percolating…

ROSE

Completing a whole new collection was a highlight last week. I managed to get the whole thing done in just over a week even whilst having people traipsing in and out of the house, so I’m feeling pretty smug about that.

And (drum roll please)… I sold my flat! From the very first viewing on the very first day. What a miracle! Which means that all systems are go for our move into the new place in May. I cannot wait to finally have a proper studio (the pic above is from my new studio window - I’m so looking forward to drawing those rooftops!).

BUD

This week I found out that my Collective has been invited to show at the very prestigious Edinburgh Art Fair in November! What’s more, I’ve been asked to pitch a talk about neurodivergence to give whilst we’re there - exciting! And terrifying!

I’ve been getting a bit more involved with the behind the scenes of the Collective lately too, which hopefully free up the leader of the group to go out and find even more incredible opportunities like this for us.

Finally, I have a show! Well, a mini-show. At a local café. I think we’re going down to hang it tomorrow, so it should be ready for the weekend but I’ll keep you posted.

THORN

I am very stressed, and I feel like I’ve been a bit of a shitty friend and wife lately. I’ve had no time or energy for extra curriculars and I’ve been leaning super heavily on Lars lately. I know it’s finite, and once we move everything will be a million times easier, but right now it’s… tough. Concentrating on taking it all one day at a time.
